Poetry and Writings

When You Remember your Father!

“When you remember your father remember all of him. If you remember being left in the dark remember the endless nights he spent sleeping with you.

When you remember him letting go of your bicycle also remember being picked up and hugged after a million childhood falls.

Remember being carried for hours through a busy mall or sitting on his lap at 9 years old in order to protect you from a neighbors dog.

Remember him drying your feet and putting on clean socks to keep your feet warm.

Remember your fathers lectures about drugs and his honest opinions about life.

Remember the bedtime stories and good night prayers.

Remember the laughter if you remember the tears. Remember to thank him for doing his best.

Don’t just remember the pain without remembering the rest.” -Kim Walker
